Does KinderCare Delete Your Photos When Your Child Leaves?

What happens to your child's KinderCare photos when they leave — what you can rely on, what you can't, and how to save them in time.

It's one of the first things parents ask when a KinderCare chapter is ending: if we leave, do the photos disappear? The honest answer is a bit more nuanced than yes or no — so here's what you can actually rely on.

What usually happens

The KinderCare app runs on the Lillio platform, and like every childcare app, it's run by the provider, not by you. Your child's photos sit on their account, and your access is tied to your child being enrolled. When enrolment ends, that access is normally switched off.

Whether the underlying photos are immediately deleted from the provider's systems is something only KinderCare and Lillio can say for certain, and it isn't clearly documented for parents. But that's almost beside the point: once your login stops working, the photos are out of your reach either way. You can't browse them, and you can't download them.

What you can't count on

  • A warning. Some centres give you a heads-up before access ends; plenty don't. The timing varies and isn't something you can predict.
  • The centre keeping a copy for you. Staff are busy, and there's no obligation to archive a departing family's photos. If you ask them to email a few over, what comes back is rarely everything, and rarely at full quality.
  • Getting back in later. Once the account is deactivated, there's usually no route back to those specific memories.

What to do instead

Treat access as borrowed time and get everything off the app while you can still log in — ideally weeks before the last day, not after it.

  1. On a computer, sign in to KinderCare at classroom.kindercare.com and check you can see the full history of photos, not just recent ones.
