How to Download All Your Storypark Photos & Videos
Save every photo and video from your child's Storypark stories in one click, at full quality, straight to your computer.
To download all your Storypark photos and videos at once, install the free NurseryDownloader Chrome extension, sign in to app.storypark.com in Chrome and click Download all photos & videos in the panel that appears. Every photo and video from your child's stories saves to your computer in dated folders, one for each child.
Storypark is used by daycares, child care centres and early learning programs across Canada. It has its own Canadian site, and families sign in at the same app.storypark.com as everyone else. If your child's centre uses it, it has been building up a record of their early years: hundreds of photos and videos, story by story. Saving them one at a time is slow, and the files you keep are only as good as the way you save them.
NurseryDownloader is a Chrome extension that saves every photo and video from your child's Storypark stories, at full quality, in one click. Here's how.
Download every Storypark photo in one click
Step 1: Install the extension
- Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a laptop or desktop (the extension doesn't run on phones or tablets).
- Add NurseryDownloader from the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
Step 2: Sign in to Storypark
- Go to app.storypark.com and sign in with your family account, as you normally would.
- The NurseryDownloader panel appears in the top-right corner of the page.
Step 3: Click download
- Click Download all photos & videos in the panel. It covers every child on your account in one run.
- Keep the tab open while it works. You'll see progress as it goes, and you can cancel at any time.
- Everything lands in your Downloads folder, in a folder for each child, sorted month by month, with the story's date at the start of each filename.
What you get
- Photos and videos, saved as the original files wherever Storypark provides them, not screenshots.
- One folder per child, then a folder for each month, so years of stories stay easy to browse.
- Date-first filenames, so everything sorts into the right order on any computer.
- Nothing twice. Run it again in a few months and it only fetches the stories added since.
Handy options
Open Advanced in the panel if you want to:
- Choose a date range, to save just one year, or just the last few months.
- Use one flat folder instead of a folder per child and month.
Storypark's own export, and what it's for
Storypark has a built-in export too. According to Storypark's help centre, an admin family member can request one from the Storypark website on a computer (not the phone app). Storypark emails a download link to the child's stories and notes as web pages you can open in any browser, plus a folder of JPG images. The link expires, so download it when the email arrives.
It's the best way to keep the story text, which NurseryDownloader doesn't save. Storypark's list of what's in an export doesn't include videos, and NurseryDownloader saves those. Plenty of families use both.
When your child leaves the centre
Storypark is more generous than most apps here. It says that when a child leaves a service, families keep access for as long as they wish. If you ever close your account, though, Storypark won't keep your stories, so save a copy first.
There's still a good reason to save everything now: in one click you get every photo and video at full quality, on your own computer, where you can back it up, print it and share it with grandparents without anyone needing a login.
Your first 20 downloads are free, with no card and no sign-up, so you can check the quality before you buy a licence.
Questions parents ask
Does it download Storypark videos too?
Yes. Videos are saved alongside the photos. The extension always asks Storypark for the original file first. If Storypark refuses the original for a particular video, it saves the version Storypark does make available rather than skipping the video altogether.
Doesn't Storypark have its own export?
Yes. An admin family member can request an export of a child's profile from the Storypark website on a computer. Storypark emails a link to the stories and notes as web pages, plus a folder of JPG images, and the link expires, so download it when it arrives. It's the best way to keep the story text. NurseryDownloader is different: it saves the photos and videos straight to your computer in one run, sorted into a folder for each child and month, and you can run it again any time to pick up new stories.
I have more than one child. Do I do them separately?
No. It finds every child on your account and saves each one into their own folder, in a single run.
Does it save the written stories?
No. It saves the photos and videos from each story, with the story's date at the start of each filename. To keep the story text, use Storypark's own export.
Will I lose our Storypark photos when my child leaves the centre?
No. Storypark says families keep access to their child's profile for as long as they wish after a child leaves a service. If you ever close your account, Storypark won't keep your stories, so save a copy first.
Can I do this on my phone?
No. Chrome extensions only run on a computer, so use Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop. It's the same Storypark account you use on your phone.
If I run it again, will I get duplicates?
No. It remembers what it has already saved, so a second run only downloads stories added since.
Is it safe?
Yes. Your photos go straight from Storypark to your computer and never pass through our servers, so we never see them. And it never asks for your Storypark password: it works in your own browser, where you're already signed in.
